[SG EATS] Rumah Rasa At Bay Hotel Singapore- Halal-Indonesia Restaurant
Does Rumah Rasa sounds familiar to you? Yes, you are right! After years in hiatus, Bay Hotel Singapore has decided to re-launch Rumah Rasa, the halal- Indonesia restaurant. The restaurant has taken over Street 50 Restaurant & Bar space.
The kitchen is helmed by Chef Esa Hassim who has years of experience from an established five star hotel. Apart from the experienced chef, Bay Hotel has decided to farm its own spices and use it in its dishes. This makes Rumah Rasa the first Indonesia restaurant to come up with such concept.
Let’s move on to the dishes we tried that night. I am quite excited because my last Indonesia cuisine was more than 3 months ago.
Sup Buntut (Oxtail Soup) S$7.90
Oxtail soup served with boiled potatoes, carrots, tomatos, leek, celery and fried shallot. The soup is surprisingly light and delicate, considering how fatty oxtail is. The oxtail tasted earthy and meaty. I thought I wouldn’t finish it all but I did in the end.
Tahu Telor (Tofu Omelette) S$7.90
Fluffy eggs with bean curd is one of Indonesian comfort food. The traditional tofu omelette with shredded cucumber and carrot drizzled with dark sweet sauce and sprinkled with peanut. It is best to enjoy with a bowl of plain rice.
Pempek Palembang (Indonesia Fish Cake) S$7.90
Deep-fried tapioca fishcake served with rich sweet and sour sauce. It is quite addictive and can be eaten as a snack bites too. This reminds me of keropok lekor (Traditional Malaysia fish cracker) texture.
Sate Lilit (Balinese Satay) S$7.90
Homemade balinese chicken meat wrapped around lemongrass sticks. As compared our usual satay, Indonesian satay is flat and wider. The texture is moist, soft and tender with tint of lemongrass fragrance in it.
Ayam Panggang Berkakak Rumah Rasa (Grilled Chicken) S$13.90
Indonesian Char-grilled chicken with indulgent flavours and crispy skin. The chicken meat was moist and tender with a nice grilled flavour.
Ikan Kakap Bakar Cianjor (Whole grilled seabass served with homemade special sauce) S$28.50
The whole Indonesian-grilled style seabass which is best for sharing with 2-3 people with a couple of ala-carte dishes.
Bubur Ketan Hitam (Black Glutinuous Rice) S$6.90
Black glutinous rice served with coconut milk and palm sugar and topped with vanilla ice-cream to wrap up the dinner.
Overall it was pretty good meal especially the oxtail soup which definitely impressed me. It was my first time having it so light and delicate. If you often patronize mamak stall, you will know how oily and greasy it looks and taste like. Chef did a good job on this. The homemade sauces are definitely a plus point here. Lastly, there is spice garden for chef to pick the fresh spices to curate dishes. Isn’t it splendid? If you were to ask, which is my least favourite dish? I would say the Ikan Kakap Bakar Cianjor. I am not a fan of seabass though.
