[SG EATS] Aburiya & The Container At Boay Quay – Affordable Wagyu Deal In Town
Aburiya & The Container Bar is a newly-opened restaurant and bar located at Boat Quay. The Container offers tapas and alcoholic drinks while Aburiya offers Japanese casual dining experience. So, why is it called The Container? The name comes from the shipping container Izakayas that Wagyu farmers in Hokkaido gathered regularly to chit chat over small Wagyu dishes and alcohol. Customers/ Diners can always have a drink at The Container alfresco concept before heading into Aburiya restaurant for a good meal.
I kid you not. I was introduced to Wagyu Whisky S$18.00++.The taste is unique and aromatic. It is definitely oilier and full-bodied in taste. I can feel the flavour of the whisky linger on the palate. I am not an expert with alcohol drinks but this is way too strong for me to drink. I would prefer to add some ice cubes to balance off the strong taste.
And every batch of Wagyu Whisky tastes unique as well because the fats used are from different part of the cow. This is an interesting fact for you guys.
Tostadas Ceviche S$19.00++
Crispy tostada is a perfect combination of citrus and fresh seafood. Refreshing tapas that pair well with alcohol drink.
Smokin’ Wagyu Carpaccio S$19.00++

Definitely deserve an attention for a moment! It uses sakura wood to smoke the meat for while before served.
Braised Soft Pork Ribs S$12.00++/ S$19.00++
Nicely done, tender and succulent taste of braised soft pork ribs.
Wagyu Bao S$6.00 per piece
Definitely a satisfying bites before you kick start the main course.
Aburiya Kirotoshi Tokumori (350g S$54.00++)
The platter with mixture of Japanese Wagyu beef and Tokachi beef.Tokachi is one of the region accounts for the top five beef cattle producers in the prefecture of Japan. Both meat has the fatty and beautiful marbling texture. There is sweetness and smoky flavour after the grilled.
Tokusen Karubi S$26.00++
Karubi is also called boneless short rib/ flanken-cut rib, which is popular beef cuts for yakiniku. The boneless short ribs have more marbling as compared with other cuts and rich in flavours. And, the best part is that it is tender and juicy.
Corn S$5.90++
The corns from Japanese are definitely sweet and it can be eat as raw too. This is a must-have dish on the table. It is so much sweeter than the Cameron Highlands and our usual corns. It tastes good when you grill it as well.
Donabe Gohan ( S$15.50++ for 3pax)
I love Japanese rice especially the rice is made to order. This reminds me of the rice I had in SBCD Korean Tofuhouse at Tanjong Pagar too. http://blog.myfatpocket.com/hazeldiary/2017/02/sbcd-korean-tofu-house-at-tanjong-pagar-centre/ But the rice grains here are firmer and chewier in texture. There is slightly burnt from the bottom of the pot which gives a crunchy texture too.
The best part of the whole dining experience in Aburiya is that I left without smelling oily and BBQ smell. The reason being is that Aburiya’s BBQ system is customized and they use white charcoal. It is highly dense charcoal and burns for a very long time and best part is that it burns clearly with a high steady heat. The food doesn’t have to be kept close to the charcoal while grilling and this generate lesser chances for the food to be affected by the unwanted smoke. In terms of pricing offer, I think it is quite pocket-friendly if you come with 2-3 friends to enjoy the food here. If you are coming, be sure to try the Wagyu Whisky at least once. It is definitely something that you can’t really find in most bars.
