Teppei located at Tanjong Pagar is well-known with its quality omakase. The reservation is required at least 2-3 months time. Thus, not everyone has the chance to try Teppei with the long waiting list. Thankfully, Teppei has expanded to outlets with different concept across the little red dot. Teppei Syokudo located at Basement 4 (B4) of Ion Orchard is their latest venture to the F&B scene. This particular outlet can allow customers to customize (DIY) own dons with the choice of toppings.
Teppei Syokudo in Ion Orchard also serves curry rice, bento sets, croquettes and onigiri as well. Thus, customers can get to choose the choice of meal other than Kaisendon. So, how do we order? There is a cashier counter next to the DIY counter display. Customers can place their order and advise the service staff if you are dining in. There is an order chit with the ingredients stated for you to tick your choice. Take your tick and passed it to the service staff and have your DIY bowl served within minutes.
DIY KAISEN DON
Since it is an invited tasting, the picture shown here is not the exact size of the servings. There are three sizes available – Small, Medium and Large and it will be served in a takeaway bowl. And the toppings are based on your choice of selection. Thus, each dons are unique in a way. The price range from S$15.80 for DIY and there is an additional charge for extra toppings. The sashimi served was fresh and there are even premium scallops offered here. There is even mentaiko roe too! I love mentaiko as I used to cook it with somen and pasta.
Ingredients that is available for DIY includes edamame, unagi, salmon roe and many more. I think I tried almost all of it. Pardon my greediness! I couldn’t resist the temptations. All the diced sashimi cubes are mixed together with sauce before serving together with the rice. Thus, this gives the whole bowl a flavourful taste.
CRAB CREAM CROQUETTE S$3.00
The croquettes are breaded with crispy outer later and creamy texture in the inner. Although it is called the crab cream croquette, the crab taste was not strong enough. It would be best if they can have crabmeat chunks in it. There are others croquette flavours as well. So, do check them out.
With an affordable S$19.80 Kaisen Don, I will be back for more especially when I can have 5 toppings at one go with sushi rice. If S$19.80 price sounds expensive for you, go for their standard Kaisen-don S$16.00 that includes salmon, tuna sashimi, salmon roe with wasabi, goma and sprouts. Also, please note that there is no service charge applicable for this outlet.
