E & I visited Ash & Elm, European dining restaurant located in Intercontinental hotel Bugis recently to celebrate my birthday. He decided this place because we read quite a good review on their steaks. Thus, we are here to check it out on the restaurant. And of course, E made the reservation for the Saturday night dinner.
Ash & Elm is divided into several sections. This includes the Charcuterie & Cheese Room, Wood-Fire Oven, an Open-Grill Kitchen and an Open Dessert Studio where diners can see chefs in action. It was pretty cool and chill out dining experience here.
It was 20th August and it was the final Olympic badminton game (Malaysia Vs China). We wouldn’t want to miss watching LIVE so decided to check with the staff whether are they wifi services. And indeed there is. It was perfect! We stayed and watched live in the restaurant. It was indeed wonderful service. The staffs are approachable and friendly as well.
Complimentary breads was served.
As for the food wise, we ordered Boston lobster bisque scented with cognac S$21.00 and Crab Cake S$24.00 as our starters. The lobster medallion with coral cream soup was mild in flavour and there is a tint of lobster sweetness in it. As for the crab cake, it was crispy in the outer layer and the crab meat was tender and delish.
Line-Caught Yellowfin Tuna Steak A La Basquaise S$30
A traditional dish from the Basque Coast with grilled vegetables was served. The yellowfin tuna fish steak was done in medium rare with flavourful. What I enjoyed most was the smoky grilled vegetables.
Risotto Milanese S$25.00
Acquerello rice with saffron pistils, zucchini and parmesan tuile. Acquerello rice is aged carnaroli rice from Italy thus the rice texture is harder and best suitable for risotto. It is an vegetarian dish and for those who are vegan, this is for you.
Chocolate Souffle S$15.00
Desserts are made from scratch from the Dessert studio and we decided to try soufflé. The waiting time was 20 minutes. While waiting for the dessert to be served, we continue watching Live match through the iphone. The chocolate soufflé was warm , pillowly texture and dense in chocolate taste.
And I wasn’t expecting this when the service staff came presenting a complimentary birthday cake for me. E told them it’s for a birthday celebration and it was a surprise for me. Thanks for the kind thoughts and surprise!.
It was indeed an enjoyable dining experience with Ash & Elm and love how the service staffs greeted their diners with a smile on their face all the time. As usual, hotel restaurants price is usually priced high but if you have the budget, Ash & Elm is a good place to dine for celebrations. I think I will be back to check out their steak soon.
And thanks E for the birthday treat!
