[SG EATS] NEW UBIN SEAFOOD @ SIN MING – NEW PLACE IN NOVEMBER 2016

New Ubin Seafood is going to move to their new location at HillView Avenue mid of November 2016 and we decided to visit their current location at Sin Ming for birthday celebration. We made a reservation and were given 2 hours time frame to dine in. New Ubin Seafood started of from a restaurant Pulau Ubin’s north shore with the kampong-style décor. They are listed in Singapore Michelin Bib Gourmand Guide 2016 and since then more and more people visiting the place.  So, what is unique about this place? They do not limit to serve the typical zi char dishes but they also offer western-style dishes including their signature US Ribeye. We are here for their US Ribeye.

Here is what we ordered:
US Beef 550g – S$77.00 (S$14.00 per 100gram)
Reviews raved about their signature steak bits so this is must-order dish here in New Ubin Seafood. The US Black Angus Ribeye Steak is served with Idaho potato wedges, caramelised onions and 3 types of sauces (sea salt flaks, mild mustard and chilli sauce). And the Heart Attack fried rice as well. The beef cubes texture was tender and succulent. As for the fried rice which caramelised with beef drippings, it was indeed savoury with all the grains but somehow I find something missing. It is delicious but not impressive for me though.

Fried Hokkien Prawn Noodle Special – S$14.00 (S)
The Hokkien mee is rich in prawn stock and the whole plate is full of goodness. I don’t mind having second bowl of it. We ordered small serving to taste so I think next time will have it in medium instead.

Sambal Kang Kong-S$12.00 (M)
Somehow we felt that the sambal taste is not strong enough and not much kick from the dish.

Hei Chor Roll Prawn S$14.00
Deep fried prawn rolls with water chestnuts is crispy on the outer and filling in the inside. Nicely done and worth ordering here.

Sweet & Sour Pork Ribs –S$18.00 (M)
Quite a disappointing dish as I took the first bite. I think the chai peng sweet & sour pork ribs are better though.

Omelette with smoke pork –S$16.00 and Omelette with onion- S$14.00 (M)
Nicely done omelette with onion with I forget to take an individual shot of it.The attached photo is the omelette with smoke pork.

We also ordered our drinks of our choice and the total bill is S$211.15 inclusive of 10% service charge and 7% GST. After trying out New Ubin Seafood, I personally find that the unique selling point here is the combination of western and Chinese cooking-style and also their history that gives locals the nostalgic taste. Other than the signature steak and fried hokkien prawn noodle special, the rest are quite standard where I can find at any zi-char stall. Perhaps the seafood tastes better? I might give it a try in future.
We took a group photo here for memory keepsake.
