Salted egg croissant was quite a hit earlier this year and moving on is the baked cheese tart craze. The Japanese-style baked cheese tart from BAKE has taken its storm in Singapore and Hong Kong where people don’t mind queuing for the fresh tarts from the oven. Malaysia has its own version of baked cheese tart craze as well. The first baked cheese tart outlet started in Klang Valley and finally arrive southernmost tip of the peninsular.

HOKKAIDO BAKED CHEESE TART

Outlet at Sutera Mall

 Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart which sounded quite close to BAKE is actually from Secret Recipe. They have almost 80% similarity on the packaging as well. The brand has finally landed Johor Bahru with two outlets. The first one is at AEON Mall Tebrau City and second one is at Sutera Mall. I was at Sutera Mall over the weekend and it was their 2nd opening day last Saturday. Lucky me that I queued less than a minute to purchase the baked cheese tarts.

The packaging

 They are having promotion: BUY 5 FREE 1 for RM29 and selling at RM5.80 per piece. So, we purchased a box of 6 pieces and share the calories together with my family. It was still piping hot fresh from oven when the staff packed it. The tart has a milder cheese flavour, light and smooth. As for the crust wise, it is lack of buttery and flaky taste. If you prefer stronger cheese flavour, this might be a bit disappointing though. However, the best part is that it is said to be halal as I google for the information. For friends who are concern about the halal certification, it is best to check with the staff.

TOKYO SECRET

Tokyo Secret offers Japanese Hanjyuku Cheese Tart (Half Baked Cheese Tart) is originated from Hong Kong. The brand has finally expanded to Johor Bahru state recently. They are currently located at JB City Square Mall level 4 which I think is a good location. With such a strategic location, they can cater for the locals and also Singaporeans who love to shop across causeway.
I was searching for the outlet at level 4 and the moment I stepped into Inner City area, you can smell the aromatic cheese tart. It is easily to locate the stall as the smell is strong enough to lead you the way.

Packaging for 2 pieces

 The queue was not long and we managed to grab 4 pieces- 2 each for Cheese Tart RM7.90/pc and the Matcha Tart RM8.90/pc. We enjoyed the buttery pastry crust that is soft yet firm to hold on the filling. Taste wise I would say the cheese filling here has much more stronger flavour as compared to Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart.

As for the matcha tart, I am loving it. Every bite has a taste of green tea. You can taste the cheesiness in it with red bean mochi within the filling. Gooey filling!
