Tong Xin Ru Yi Traditional Hotpot 同心如意传统铜火锅 , formerly at Boat Quay has relocated to Lor Telok. We had stewed marinated beef with spicy soup and golden chicken soup as the soup base. The stewed marinated beef with spicy soup features a savoury trilogy of fork tender braised beef meat chunks, soft beef tendons and chewy beef backstraps. Housemade deep-fried golden tofu and radish are added in a spicy and piquant soup laden with Sichuan peppercorns, Sichuan chilli slices, traditional herbs and spices. Diners can opt for spicy level 1-3 when you order this. Otherwise, the kitchen will prepare level 2 (medium).
Golden chicken consists of harmonious blend of nourishing chicken broth and sweet golden pumpkin. Ingredients include a medley of black fungus, yam, konjac, pineapple chunks, sliced cucumber, brown shimeiji mushrooms and pumpkins. I personally enjoyed this broth very much. The soup broth is packed with flavours and comforting. It is a nutritious soup broth indeed and after second round of soup, the taste still strong and flavourful.
And of course there is wide selection of the usual meats, seafood, mushrooms, vegetables and noodles to choose from. Apart of all those, they also have quite a number of unique and premium ingredients to check it out.
First up we had this Shake Shake Crispy Pork手摇椒盐酥肉 S$10.00++. It is served in a shaker tub and the pork is lightly seasoned with salt and pepper. It is simply addictive and best to pair it with beer. It can be a snack dish too!
Next, Fried Mint Leaf黄金薄荷叶 S$8.00++ before we start our meal. Fresh mint leaves are battered and lightly fried till crispy and served with a side of salt and pepper.
BBQ Canadian Oyster with Garlic碳烤加拿大生蚝 S$32.00++ half dozen recommended by the service crew. The Canadian oysters are roasted over hot coals, and drizzled generously with chef’s special house-made sauce of garlic, chilli and chopped spring onions. Shiok! However, this dish needs pre-order 2 days in advance.
Premium ingredients include thinly sliced Eight-Second Beef (New Zealand) 八秒牛肉 S$24.00++, Beef Tongue 牛舌 S$22.00++ for the chewy texture, Spicy Beef Cube 坨坨牛肉 S$16.00++,Premium Chef-sliced Beef Shin (Australia) 天衣无缝 (new ingredient yet to launch), Sliced Black Bone Chicken 滋补乌鸡卷 S$20.00++.
For the greens, we tried Gracilaria 龙须菜 S$6.00++ and Chinese Lettuce 莴笋 S$8.00++. It is my first time trying Gracilaria and it has an interesting “chewing’ experience. You can opt to eat the Chinese Lettuce raw but I prefer to cook into the soup broth before consuming.
Then, we had Vince Tofu 文思豆腐 S$8.00++ per portion. Tofu is finely sliced into thin strands and eventually bursts opens into a chrysanthemum shape in a bowl of soup. Please get the service crew to share with you on how to enjoy this.
Lastly, their house made Fish Tofu 黄金鱼豆腐 S$14.00++ (did not take photo) is my favourite too. Dory fish meat is minced and moulded by hand into cubes before being steamed and lightly fried to golden brown. Not like the usual fish paste, it has the firm fish texture in it and I asked for second and third servings.
We ended the meal with Traditional Ice Jelly 传统红糖冰粉 S$3.00++. I loved this summer dessert with the combination of Ice Jelly, black sugar syrup, raisins, crushed peanuts, and hawthorn. The dessert is totally refreshing, nutty and sweet flavours to end the meal.
I would be back to try out other soup bases in the menu. The selling point of this hotpot restaurant is their soup base that comes with ingredients upon order. Thus, you can save on ordering more ingredients to go with the hotpot too. Furthermore, it is a nice place to chill with zen ambience. The restaurant is also vegetarian friendly spot too.
