[SG EATS] Chef Kang’s Noodle House at Jackson Square – Michelin-Starred Wanton Mee

Chef Kang’s Noodle House is located between buildings at Toa Payoh Jackson Square. It is not noticeable from the main road because the stall is situated inside. There is ample parking space for those who are driving. If you are taking public transport, there is a bus stop outside the building or you need to walk for approximately 10mins from Toa Payoh MRT Station. The stall is opened by one Michelin starred Chef Ang Song Kang of Chef Kang’s Kitchen but managed by his 2 protégés- 3 brothes from Ipoh, Malaysia. And the menu is simple with only 3 items available as seen on the photo. Noodle with Char Siew & Wanton S$6.00, Noodle with Shredded Abalone S$11.00 , Char Siew & Wanton and Char Siew S$12.00.I was told that be prepared to queue since most reviews did highlight. I was there on Sunday morning around 9.45am. There are only 3 customers ahead of me so basically no need to queue for my food. Lucky us!We ordered the Noodle with Char Siew & Wanton priced at S$6.00 (it was S$5.00 in 2019). Not sure if it is because of covid-19, there is a price adjustment but my friend shared that it is quite pricey for S$6.00. So our noodle comes with a bowl of soup that consists of 2 pieces of shrimp wantons. The noodles remind me of the Hong Kong style noodles and it has the springiness and QQ texture. Mixed everything with the soy-based sauce and enjoy it with the pieces of pork lard and thick slices of char siew. What makes their noodles outstanding is also their char siew that is freshly prepared at the stall. It comes in thick slices, tender and nice balance of fat and lean meat. It has the slightly charred and covered in the sweet caramelised sauce, which I liked it. My friend thought it will be best to be less sweet though.

I also packed back for my sisters to try and they liked it too. They shared that it has a taste of Malaysian-style wanton noodles. We wouldn’t mind to go back for more next time.Read about my other wanton noodles in Singapore and Malaysia here.
