[SG EATS] Yan Restaurant (宴) At National Gallery Singapore – Chinese New Year 2019

Usher in a boutiful Year of the Pig at Yan Restaurant with specially curated auspicious set menus and hearty Pen Cai by Executive Chinese Chef Lai Chi Sum. My last CNY with Yan Restaurant was in year 2017. Time flies!

For this Chinese New Year 2019, Yan encapsulates the auspiciousness of Lunar New Year in six set menus, ranging from S$128.00++ to S$278.00++ per person, and a bounteous Pen Cai thoughtfully prepared to nourish the spirit of togetherness.

Here are the some of the dishes we tried during the tasting session:
Kaleidoscope of Prosperity (Shun De Style)

Beautiful masterpiece Yu Sheng I would say. The mountain of crispy fried vermicelli is topped with gold leaves, and ringed with a vibrant medley of vegetables, sesame seeds, crispy youtiao, bak kwa slices, as well as slices of fresh salmon or yellow tail. Customers also can add on abalone with additional charges. I enjoyed the combination of the ingredients in it and the taste is so flavourful and appetizing. I couldn’t resist going for second servings!

Signature Roast Crispy Suckling Pig

Cantonese classics suckling pig to order for the year of pig is done in three refined ways. First, the crisp skin of the signature roast crispy suckling pig with the house-made pancake, sauce and condiments. Love the thin layer of the fat and I can hear the cracking sound in my mouth.

Next, the Suckling Pig Carved Shoulder and Oven-baked Pig Fillet with Lemongrass served together. The carved shoulder has the crispy skin and tender meat combination. As for the oven-baked pig fillet with lemongrass, it is more on the meat texture and the fragrance of the lemongrass in it.

Superior Chicken Broth with Fish Maw

Highly recommend to have this goodness of broth when you dine in at Yan. Tasty and deep flavourful I would say. It reminds me of the collagen broth at Beauty in a pot. Nourishing broth indeed!

Steamed Half Lobster with 18 years Nu Er Hong Rice Wine

This is an interesting combination of steamed lobster with Nu Er Hong red wine to enhance the unique flavour. They also serve a pour of Nu Er Hong rice wine on the side that is to be added into the dish, or savoured as a rich and aromatic drink. It’s all up to you!

Braised Ee-fu Noodles with Dried Scallop and Enoki Mushroom

And noodles are a must-have dish during Chinese New Year to represent the well-wishes for longevity.

Ending our meal with Pan-fried Nian Gao coated with grated coconut and Chilled Peach Resin with Osmanthus and Aloe Vera Jelly.
