I have been to Ellenborough Market Café located at Swissotel Merchant Court for several times with different dinner companions. They are known with the international buffet and wide selection of Peranakan foods. My recent visit was for their Laksa Promotion on November 2015 courtesy of media invite. This time round I am thankful to join the feasts celebrating Chinese New Year with Ellenborough Market Café again.
There were quite a number of social media friends invited for the CNY tasting session that night. It was a wonderful session where everyone gathers on the round table and lohei together. Prosperity Lunar New Year Buffet is happening from 1st February – 14th February 2016 before they closed for a facelift from 15th February till end June 2016.
So, what can you expect for Prosperity Lunar New Year Buffet other than the usual spread?
Nicely presented in Monkey-shaped Yu Sheng was presented on the table with fresh salmon sashimi slices, crackers and the sauces along the side. Yu Sheng has been a yearly affair for every Chinese New Year for better prosperity. Huat ah!
When it comes to Peranakan cuisine, kueh pie tee is served as a snack before main course. The crispy shells with DIY fillings are available at the buffet counter. It is always fun to have your own DIY as you can control the portion you want on your ‘cup’.
Braised Fish Maw Soup with Crabmeat
You can also expect the braised fish maw soup with crabmeat for this New Year buffet. Thick broth to begin with and it would be best if crabmeats portion can be increased.
Stir-fried Australian Scallops with Snow Peas, Lily Bulbs in XO Sauce
Stir fried scallops is a comforting dish that families will enjoy during this festive season. Ah gong Ah ma will surely opt for this from the buffet spread.
Baby Lobster in Black Bean Sauce
Whenever I am here, I will aim for their black pepper crayfish. But for this festive season, I will indulge in baby lobster instead. It’s definitely a worth value money for buffet.
Nian Gau with Fresh Desiccated Coconut | Sweetened Yam Dumpling | Durian Pengat
Round off the tasting night with desserts. Their signature Durian Pengat is a must-have dessert if you are dining here. Other than the cakes and nyonya kueh delicacies, nian gau with fresh desiccated coconut and sweetened yam dumpling are available for this New Year promotion.
